Portage is a home-visiting educational service for pre-school children with additional support needs and their families.

Accredited Trainer Status

All Applicants must meet the following criteria

  1. Hold individual membership of the NPA
  2. Have attended a Trainer for Trainers [TforT] course since 2004 or have attended a Revised Workshop Dissemination Day if TforT was attended prior to 2004.
  3. Have presented on a minimum of 3 Portage Basic Workshops during the last 6 Years.
  4. Offer the NPA Portage Basic Workshop curriculum [2004]
  5. Be working in a Registered Portage Service or have done so within the last 3 years.

Or

Be actively maintaining an interest in Portage by:

Achieving Accredited Trainer Status

You must meet the criteria for all Accredited Trainers as laid out in points 1 - 5

And

ATS 6 - Present half of the teaching points of any 4 core modules as a presenter on 3 Portage BWs. Each of these half modules will be awarded 1 credit point, a maximum of 4 credit points being given for each workshop. Over 3 PBWs this will earn you the 12 credit points required to achieve Accredited Trainer Status.

ATS 7 - Present on 3 Portage BWs with an NPA accredited trainer/s who has presented half of the teaching points of 6 out of 8 of the taught core modules. [ The Portage Home Visit, Using Clear Language, Planning for Success, Small Steps to Learning, Planning Recording and Sharing Activities, Play and Generalisation and Understanding and Responding to Children's Behaviour]

Maintaining Accredited Trainer Status

You must continue to meet the criteria for all Accredited Trainers as laid out in points 1 - 7

And

MATS 8 - Attend at least 1 Trainers' Event in each 2 year period. [Trainer's Forum, Seminars at Conference or Regional Study Days]

Applying for Senior Accredited Trainer Status

You must continue to meet the criteria for all Accredited Trainers as laid out in points 1 - 7

And

SATS 8 - Have delivered half of the teaching points of the taught core curriculum within the Portage BW over a minimum of 3 trainings in a 6 year period or less.

SATS 9 - Have attended a minimum of 2 Trainer's Forums and 2 other NPA training events over a period of 6 years or less.

NB. Accredited Trainer Status and Senior Accredited Trainer Status must be renewed every 2 years. Renewal will be required in the March, 2 years after you have received your letter of Accredited Status acceptance and biannually thereafter.
