This exciting opportunity involves supervision and day-to-day management of a team of Portage Home Visitors (PHVs), co-ordination of the Portage referrals within a wider early years team, responsibility for all Initial home visits and contributing to CYC strategic developments. In addition you would also have a small home visiting caseload.
Other aspects of the role:
You will lead on Portage Workshop training and be expected to plan/co-deliver additional training as part of the wider Specialist Early Years Support Team.
You will be central to the development, maintenance and provision of the Portage home visiting service for children under five with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in York, following the National Portage Association (NPA) model.
You will be an excellent communicator, demonstrated through sensitive, supportive interactions with families, through direct work and supervision with PHVs and as a Senior Leader within the Specialist Early Years Support Team and the wider Council.You will be expected to reflect excellent written communication through reports, contributions to My Support Plans, supervision notes, Initial Home Visit/Final Portage Review notes and email contact with other professionals.
You will be able to manage, interpret and scrutinise data to inform future planning.
You will be an effective collaborator, skilled in working as part of a dynamic, supportive, creative team and contribute to developments throughout CYC.
You will have experience of and be committed to multi-agency working, including colleagues from Education, Health and Social Care.
You will need skills and experience in co-ordinating, planning and delivering training.
Your personal attributes will include; flexibility, creativity, empathy, ability to analyse contexts and modify practice, excellent time-management and a sense of humour!
You will have successfully completed an NPA recognised Portage Workshop prior to appointment and have at least two years experience of Portage Home Visiting or have worked closely with a Portage Home Visiting Service and have experience of working within the Portage model.
It is essential you have relevant qualifications in Early Years and/or SEN (education, social work, nursing or child care qualification).
You will have a sound knowledge of early child development, the Early Years Foundation Stage and current legislation and documents relating to early years education and to special educational needs and disability.
Be an accredited NPA trainer or be prepared to undertake this training in the future.
